Who is Kent Eriksen?
Kent founded one of the most famous names in the world of mountain bikes, Moots, in 1981.
Kent became well known for his original thinking, innovative ideas, and some of the best mountain bikes ever produced. All his designs were based on his love for bicycle touring, exploring new trails, and riding long and hard on bikes that he knew were comfortable, durable, and thoroughly practical.
In 1991 he started producing frames built with titanium tubing. The material's lightness, strength, and durability had been well known for years but those qualities were always outweighed by one overwhelming weakness, its notorious flexibility. That weakness was due to one simple fact, no one was producing tubing specifically for bicycle frames. That changed at the end of the 80's and in 1991 Kent switched from steel to titanium.
The need to increase production to meet a steadily growing demand plus the investment required to move from steel to titanium meant changes in the company structure which eventually resulted in Kent no longer being an owner of Moots. The corresponding loss of control and freedom to design and innovate as he liked eventually led him to leave Moots to start up a new company under his own name.
